Hello new to group and I need a little help

I live in Illinois and just found some garter snake in my basement at the base of the concrete near the insulation. How would I capture them and reslease them with out hurting them?

Hi Fran, you can just gently pick them up in your hands and carry there to where you want to relocate them. They can't harm you.

    It is fall outside.
Maybe the garters would like to hibernate in your basement.
If you let them stay where they are they will go out back to your garden in spring.
    Allready waiting for the sommer

Welcome to the forum, Fran, and you know.............you don't have to release them. Keep them as pets like the rest of us here- they're so much fun!!!

If you release them, it should be warm enough for them... I think it's starting to get to late for that. I think Udo is about right and stoneyloom can definately tell you it's big fun during spring...

hey there, from N.Illinois, depending on what part of the state you live in,you'll need to do it quik like,it's getting cold now,and they'll need time to find, their winter home ,really fast!otherwise you'll need to leave them for the winter or take care of them thru the winter
