    Name that Garter!

Hey every one, I´m active on a herping forum here in Sweden, and recently one of the members acquired two young snakes on a reptiles fair. The guy she bought them from wasn´t sure (?!) what type of sub-species they were.
What type of Garter do you reckon this guy is?

Quite blue/greenish colour on these guys, what do you reckon? Similis?

It looks like a baby similis, but baby florida blue easterns and similis look a lot alike. I would say similis but would love to see some more pics. Here is some baby similis for comparison.

I'd be willing to bet that you've got a Florida eastern. Sirtalis, not similis. They have quite a distinct look. Notably, I find that similis have a pointier head than sirtalis. They're usually quite a bit darker as well. Very good looking snake!

    I second what Neil stated.

This is a baby florida blue eastern. Note that the original snake has a well defined lateral stripe. I think it could still possible be a baby similis, but it's hard to tell without knowing it's history or waiting until it gets more size on it. There is also certain locals in fl that are intergrades.

How readily available are similis in Sweden? I'd expect Florida Blue Easterns are more commonly available.

    I doubt they're common.

Why buy garters you can't identify from someone who can't identify them, either?
