    Question about cage size?

I have a 10 gallon, a 20 gallon, and a 35 gallon tank. I am getting 2 babies in a couple days, wondering which one I should set up for them. The small one has a mess screen lid, the other 2 have the parallel bars with the lock top opening (the 35 has 2 openings). Thanks for the advice

For babies I'd probably go with the 10 gallon. Just put a book over the mesh lid to be safe. As they get bigger the more room the better, but sometimes a huge amount of space can freak out little ones.

Thanks. The lid does have clips so not worried about them pushing off the top. Will have to use a top light with that cage

Pushing off the lid would not be my first concern. Having babies climb the glass and work themselves into small places would be mine.
Those mesh lids are notorious for not fitting flush/flat. They were designed to keep larger animals in, not baby/small garter snakes.
If I may make a suggestion. Most of these aquariums have an inner lip just below the top. Most hardware stores/outlets sell a screen making kit.
Purchase one and make a screen that fits on the inside lip. If you make the screen correctly (not too tight screen material) it will fit nice a snug and won't allow and escapes, injuries or hiding places.
    Just a suggestion.

They are not just snakes. They're garter snakes.
