    Tips on Shipping Garters

Hello everyone! Come spring I will be shipping off some eastern garters that I'm hoping to sell. They were born in August, still little guys, but I feel that they will be ready by spring. The problem? I don't have a clue about proper shipping procedures for this kind of animal.

Do I need an insulated box? At what point do I need to add heat/cooling packs? Can tupperware be used in place of deli cups? Any tricks to shipping multiple snakes in one box without heat issues?

Any advice is welcome! I've read a few tutorials, but most seem to be about the bigger snakes. I don't want to make any mistakes with these little guys... I've lost eneogh of them to natural causes, I don't need to lose any more!

I reccomend using Ship Your Reptiles - Ship Live Reptiles Easily, Securely and Affordably. You can get a quote, buy shipping supplies like boxes and heat packs, and print out a shipping label for fed-ex.

Reptile Express is awesome. I've received packages from them three time now and every time was fast n easy. The first time the package got there(warm FedEx office) at 8am I could only get off work at 12pm and Not only did the Fedex office call me when it arrived but the owner of Reptile Express (Sam Fard) Called me at around 10:30am asking if I was aware my package of snakes was ready to be picked up.

That is what I call a good caring company.

You should always use an insulated box, yes. It provides not only temperature protection, but structural protection as well. It is also a requirement by the shipping companies.

At ShipYourReptiles, we recommend using heat packs if the day time high temps drop below 70F. Shipping colubrids, you have more leeway on the bottom end, but 70F is our recommendation.

Tupperware is fine to use, very common. Be sure to punch holes in your container for proper air flow. You can ship multiple snakes per box, it is not a problem, just be sure your selected box has enough room.

We have an extensive Get Help section at our site, and we are available by email or phone for direct help as well. Let us know if you have any questions!
