Hello from the Oregon High Desert

I grew up in California, where I had my early experiences with snakes.

Long ago, when I was in the first grade, I wrote a story (all of about two or three sentances long ), about Snakey Lakey, to go with a picture I had colored. Shortly thereafter, I named my first snake Snakey Lakey. S/he was a garter or ribbon snake caught (by my mother with my butterfly net) in the early 1960's near Big Sur, California; kept for about one year then released back in the Big Sur area (back then we didn't know any better).

I decided that Snakey Lakey, in honour of my first snake, would be a good name to use on snake forums.

I now live in the high desert of Oregon, east of the Cascade mountains.
I currently have 2 WC local snakes (and too many cute rats.) I am unemployed, and live with my widowed mother who has a white cat named Snowball.

    Hi, Reptileparadise. Hi, Sid.

Sid, when I was in the Air Force (1976 - 1978) I was stationed at Shaw AFB, near Sumter. Myrtle Beach is my favorite ocean beach. I didn't see any snakes while I was there. I used to go to Poinsett Park.

From 1976 to 2000 were snakeless years. Garters have always been my favorite snakes, what I have had the most of.

Snakey, so glad you found us! I'm a reformed Reptile Repugnantist having just fallen in love with garters and Hoggies coming up on a year now. She that showed me the error of my ways is a Common Eastern, named Winnie the Poo, we have at the state park where I work. I've yet to get a snake but am gravid and will give birth this coming Sat to Peepers and Jeepers, two Easterns from NY; and my little Hoggy, Kenabec, ate his FIRST MEAL EVER on July first. I should be getting him in about three or four weeks.

Nice to have you on board!

    Hi, Wayne. Hi, Gertie.

To learn a little more about my snakes, past and present, see my post in dekaybrown's thread about "Why did you name. . . ?"

Someone mentioned this site on the kingsnake.com Garter Forum, so I decided to check it out. Neat place, friendly people. Eventually, I will see if I can get some pix up.
