    Exclamation Snake escaped!

My ribbon snake, Luke, escaped the night before last after I cleaned his cage, and because he likes to hide under his paper towels, I didn't realize that he had escaped until today. He's only about a foot and a half long, and hasn't eaten in a long time. Where in my bedroom would he be? Could he have crawled under a door? How do I find and capture him?

look in the warmer areas of the room/house. my female checkered escaped (help from me) last night or this morning. I accidentally left the door open and she got out, I found her under the excess carpet under the heat radiator.

A few tricks - create warm spots for the snake to seek out - put out containers with food.

I found him! He was in my mountain of clean laundry. I'm never going to take my dresser for granted again!
Wow, you guys sure respond fast. Thank you so much! That pile of clothes must have been pretty warm. It was also the least disturbed place in my room. Lesson learned: put the laundry in the dresser, not the floor.

Mama escaped once, I found her under a bag of bedding. I'm thinking she either has a very strange fashion sense, or she's really bad at playing hide and seek.

    Re: Snake escaped!

Mine never escape. I'm much too clever for them.

But seriously, if the snake has likely been missing more than a couple of minutes, it's usually futile for me to look for them.

Sure, I look along the walls, under furniture, etc. but I almost never find them that way if they have decent head start. My house can be pretty chilly except in the hottest part of summer, especially the floors. No point in heating the whole house. With that in mind, the snakes have always turned up in one of three warm places.

    1. About two weeks after escaping, I found an adult in the living room floor, in front of the gas insert fireplace on a chilly morning after I turned it on and had some coffee.

    2. An escaped baby poked his head out from under the kitchen stove. It's gas, and there is a pilot burning, and so it's warm under there.

    3. A refrigerator works by removing heat from the interior and transferring it to coils behind it. Another adult turned up after about a week spent under or behind the fridge. Must have got hungry and/or thirsty and came out to find what it needed. He showed up in the kitchen floor covered in dust bunnies.

If the entire house is kept rather chilly, and you don't see your snake for a while, he's probably found a warm spot and waiting there. If you don't find them there, Eventually they must come out to seek food and/or water. Get the whole house warm and toasty after about two weeks, and dim or turn off the lights. He'll come out.
