Garter snake vs cat

We rescued a garter snake from a stray cat but some damage was done he has a large deep gash on it's side there are no vets around me so any advice on treating the opens wound he's in large tuberware container with news paper and I confiscated one of my heater things from my ball python for now and it's getting cold outside so sooner he gets better before it gets to cold to release him the better

Apply daily, a weak-tea looking solution of Betadine and water. Silver sulfadiazine cream is good also, applied daily. Keep the snake warm, with a nice water bowl also. Change the water daily. Please keep us posted on this situation. Thanks for wanting to help this poor Thamnophis.
