    Yikes.

    Hi everyone.

I'm new here as well, and look forward to some kindness from y'all. I've got a reeeeal little guy with blue-green stripes. Kind of nervous about treating him right and I hope this place will help out.

Quick question: most of his tank is dry substrate. I have the requisite water dish, rock, thermometer, heater, etc. and it all seems to work great.

One feature I have is a shallow dish of coconut shavings that are slightly moistened with water (not drenched). He goes all over the place, but really seems to like this one area of slightly moist substrate in his tank. The rest is dry.

I've read here that substrate should be dry, but since he seems to like it so much and spends plenty of time on the dry stuff, do you think this is an ok way to go?

    Just wondering....

    Thanks,

    -- Whit

I would think it would be ok but i'm a total amateur at this...one thing i've noticed is that my snakes really like burrowing in the coconuts shavings stuff.

It's okay. I use something similar in the winter, when the humidity drops. All you need to remember, is to change it more often than the rest of the substrate and as soon as you notice that it's getting moldy or if there are feces in it.

    yeah
they like a little damp some times, especially when they're approaching shedding
I give mine hides with damp moss during dryer seasons

and welcome to the forum, Whit

Oh. Because you know, it seems to me that, aside
from being a little mentally ill, she's pretty normal.

Sounds like a nice setup! And I repeat what everyone has said. What dry substrate are you using?
