    Hi

I am a complete newbie! I never thought about having a snake until I rescued a radix from my dog two weeks ago. I'm trying to learn quickly for Snakey's sake. Still not sure if we will keep her or try and find her a home if it turns out she can't be released, but she and you all, have definitely opened my eyes to the fun of having snakes!

I'm in the Denver, CO area.

That's great, they are fun little pets for sure. How big is he/she? Also it's getting late in the year so will have to be released sooner rather than later if you plan to.

Edit: Saw the other thread, female radix, awesome snakes. Hopefully she does well with you!

Welcome. Most of my interest in garters comes from interacting with wild garters and seeing the beautiful garters on the internet.

    Re: Hi

My affection for Snakey started from observing her and the other snakes in the backyard for the last 4 or so years. Unfortunately my dog got over her fear of snakes enough to start attacking them this spring.

I'm thinking about how to put some snake hides in the flower beds and other places in the yard so they are never far from a place she can't get them.

Nothing wrong with helping them out when you can. I gave up 70% of my garden to build a shelter area for them. I have a couple water dishes out when the temp. gets really high. I'll water an area in the back so they have a place to catch worms. I hope one of my kids keeps the house after I'm gone to continue caring for the wild population.
