    Re: The Nature Photography Thread

I don't think I would be able to handle living where tarantulas roam free...........I would most likely become a paranoid twitchy person who was afraid to leave the house!!!
but the patchnose snake is beautiful!!

ROFLMAO.... PERFECT description, Anji!!! You and me both!!

Actually, I suppose if I saw them on a regular basis they wouldn't creep me out so much.

They are AWESOME pics, Laura. You have such a variety of critters in Texas. I want an armadillo, lol.

    Very nice pictures, Laura.

And I especially like the patchnose.
edit: apparently it primarily eats lizards (sometimes other snakes, reptile eggs, mammals). A real shame.

    Re: The Nature Photography Thread

    Thanks

I really don't see the tarantulas all that often, unfortunately. There used to be more out here, but there's been a lot of development in my subdivision in the past few years. I used to have tons of scorpions that would get in the house - one stung me good when it was hiding on the underside of the tongue of my shoe... got me on the top of the foot about 5 times before I got free >:| I used to be terrified of both, now I keep a few tarantulas and scorpions as pets, lol.

I think the patchnose was probably hunting baby Mediterranean geckos when my cat violently interrupted it, lol. It was right after I got my baby ball python, and my cat, Idgie, brought the patchnose to me while I was working at my desk, dropped it at my feet and bellowed. I think she recognized it as one of those slithery things I was playing with the night before, lol.

My neighbor's seen a coral snake and a skink this year, and called me over to see the coral, so I grabbed my camera and ran, but it was already gone She didn't tell me about the skink because she figured I'd try to catch it and keep it, lol.

I didn't see many striped fence lizards this year, but hopefully I can get some pics of those in the Spring. They're adorable

Do not bother lizards or you'll fall off a cliff.

I'm not sure I like your neighbor. If she figured you'd try to catch the skink and didn't call you over because of that, then why did she call you over when she saw a fairly venomous Elapid?

Don't take this post too seriously.
