I must admit, just a few short years ago my interest in Latin was rekindled by a certain young man who uses it on here frequently.

I also have to admit, that besides medical terminology, this forum is the only other place I have seen the language used at all. Kudos, Stefan & Wayne!

Legalese uses extensive amounts of Latin phrases.

Your lawyer can talk over your head or be your partner in the courtroom, I chose the latter.

I guess someone thought plains garters look like a root because that's what radix means doesn't it? "root or point of origin". "Concinnus" is defined under my avatar.

Looks to me like you need to thank a radix for the origin of concinnus.

I don't think so. I stumbled onto the following. Pretty interesting. Or just weird. I haven't decided which. Ben L. Robertson: Thamnophis Sirtalis « translinguistic other

Dendrology and botany do that too to some extent. There are certain plant names that no one can seem to pronounce in a non-offensive way; it gets pretty funny after awhile.

Too bad I'm not into retics or any non-colubrids actually. Found this on craigslist tonight. Vancouver, Washington: (Portland, Oregon metro area)

"4ft lavender albino male reticulated python very friendly hook trained eats frozen healthy happy snake looking to rehome with his cage and heating equipment bedding water bowl. Experienced snake people only. Not because hes mean but he will get big 10ft plus and has a big feeding response. Asking $250 for him and his home. Price is firm no lowballers contact me. he needs the right home call or text for pics 503 421 2538 thanks"

Sounds like a sweet deal if you're into retics and if it's healthy.

Well, it beats the convention that existed before binomial nomenclature.
