    Re: Shannon's Snakes Photo Thread

there is someting about BP's that I am attracted to... I suppose it's their cute little faces! Gartes and BPs may be very different... but I love them both!

or maybe its the fact that I am so good at keeping them successfully that I can't afford not to keep them!

    Re: Shannon's Snakes Photo Thread

Well with hamburg went an adult graybanded kingsnake, a russian legless lizard, and 1.1 FL blue garter snakes. And with me came home a couple *little* additions... merely Xmas present to myself! Two of them are non-feeding baby cornsnakes, ultra's het caramel, both little girls... and one has more of a stripe than spots! I am going to give them all I have to get them started... they both ALMOST ate tonight! I just couldn't leave Adam's table without giving SOME of those babies a chance! I didn't take any pics of those yet because I am not wanting to freak them out any further! Their lives hang in the balance.

First and foremost... Sledge has a future girlfriend! I used the $$ from the excess male grayband I had to bring home a long awaited snake... an adult female western hoggie! She is really, really BIG, and she's a doll! (until i scared her when I opened up her cage and she rolled over dead!! She's easy to spook! She's a red phase... omg... she's so cute i can't get over it!!

And here is her pulling the "I am a stinky dead snake with a gaping mouth and wiggly tongue" stunt!

Oh, and I finally found that perfect aberrant cali king I have always wanted. And she's not shy about food! I simply love the way that from the top, she is solid black and white, but from the bottom, she's black and yellow! The bands on her go from white on top to yellow at the bottoms!

The choice of garters at the show was... basically there were none! except albino checkered's, three baby male parietalis, and one guy had a big deli cup with 3 adult radix in it. I was about to keep walking until I noticed that while the two on top were very dull and drab... the one buried underneath looked red! So I grabby-handed this radix for $20. I said... sooo.. uhh, will you sell these separately?! haha! She's WELL worth it. Judging by her size, she's probably a year or so old. I can't wait to see what she looks like when she's full grown! Not to mention what kinds of babies she produces!

Last but certainly not least... I stumbled upon two of the most breathtaking snakes I ever saw today. I was like no shannon, don't get them, don't give in... but then we probed them and they were 1.1 so I simply HAD to! These are Red-Necked Keelbacks, Rhabdophis subminiatus. When angered they will flatten the orange part of their neck in a defense posture. They were once considered non-venomous but they ARE rear fanged, just like a hognosed snake.... they have VERY rarely caused problems due allergic reactions, when they are allowed to bite for too long or there were multiple sequential bites involved. One person has died following a reaction had to the bite of this snake, so these are considered a dangerous animal by most and so they are not for everyone. Much like garters... they are semi-aquatic and mainly feed on frogs and fish in the wild. I find them simply stunning and a very fitting display animal! They are settling in quite alright, the one I took pictures of had some stuck shed that I did not want to peel off. They have the same exact shape as a garter, and they are extremely docile.
