What? Well it shouldn't be hard at all. If it is indeed typical, and the results are conclusive, then it shouldn't be difficult to reproduce the same results. I can honestly say I haven't been able to do so. When I watch a bullfrog tadpole get frustrated trying to pick apart a goldfish flake, it makes it rather difficult to believe they could bite each other, or prey on anything. Just saying. They are much like a nursing infant trying to eat corn on the cob.

I was reluctant to get involved with the tadpole DISCUSSION but then i thought what the hell.
i have kept amphibs for many years and as a result i have amassed a lot of books on them, i am far from what you would call knowledgeable on tadpoles but i do remember reading in more than one of my books about a survival strategy employed by some anuran's, some of their tadpoles put on a spurt in growth and then turn cannibal, i think the reasoning was that in dry spells it allowed at least some of them to develop before the pond dried up
if i can find the relevant book or books i will add the info to the thread.

I think Stefan was referring to a bunch of research papers in this post:

my understanding is that when research is published, they've already gotten it to happen more than once.

.... think I'd rather congradulate everyone else that got married today .... at least they didn't spend my taxes on the event or cost me a days work

On another note ... I've been a bit inactive lately thanks to 'the breakup' - may be in a bit of a limbo with limited internet access from mid-next week for a bit with Terri moving out. Heads up to all - if you get in touch it may take a bitty for me to get back to you.
