No, I belive she was not T.s. pickeringii. There was no blue. The more I remember and look at my T.s. fitchi, this was her.

If it looked like that, ^^^and it was in Vancouver, B.C. then it was a red phase pickeringi. Pugets are only blue in the extreme south end of the sound near Olympia, WA. In Canada, they look like that^^^ I already posted a picture of one. I see you're under the impression that all puget sound garters are blue like the ones you see in the market. Those are actually the exception. Most are not blue at all, but are instead quite plain with white or pale greenish white stripes, and Canadian pugets in Vancouver B.C. look very much like a fitchii. This is a puget sound garter, red phase, Vancouver island locality:



That is the only possible red garter snake you could have seen at the zoo in B.C. and it is a puget sound garter. T.s. pickeringi. There are no concinnus in Canada, the nearest they occur is extreme SW WA. T.s. fitchii do not occur in western B.C but red phase pugets do, especially on Vancouver Island and the US border area.

Again, in northern WA and Vancouver, B.C. area, pugets are red like the snake pictured immediately above. Most pugets aren't blue at all but instead look like this:



The very blue ones like this, only occur in a small area of their range, near Olympia WA:


Your "concinnus" that you saw wild in Vancouver, B.C. could only have been a puget sound garter snake. T.s pickeringi red phase. They can be difficult to tell apart from fitchi but range and labial/head markings will tell you which one you found.

So do an experiment. See if you can get them to do what you say they do. See if they will prey on other tadpoles. See if they will indeed literally take bites out of dead or live flesh. The only thing I have faith in, is that they have never done that when I kept them, and that they consistently demonstrate to me that they aren't even capable of it, even if they wanted to.
