Hey Stefan, want to take a crack at a snake I.D. ?

I'm having a heck of a time with this one. Found in southern Louisiana and is newborn size. I've looked at every dang snake known to exist in LA and I still can't figure out what it is.

IDK, the head shape just doesn't seem right. Seems more like a rat snake but who knows what species.

The head shape can be deceiving, it looks like a very young snake. I'm leaning towards a Nerodia, but I haven't had time yet to look at the species found in Louisiana.

Soon as I saw it, I though "banded water snake". Can you get a picture of his underside? They have a very distintive belly. Sort of red and yellow. I could be wrong though.

    N. erythrogaster, maybe?

Who knows, they all look the same to me. But I definitely think it's a juvenile Nerodia.

No, it was released. That's something that people asking for I.D. often fail to provide - a shot of the underside.

Yeah, Stefan. I'm with you. They all look the same to me. I think there's several different ones that live in LA too.

    Hmm... strange

July this year has 5 fridays, 5 saturdays, and 5 sundays. Won't happen again for another 823 years.
