this is the first time in forever that I actually have time to just "hang out" for a little while
my life has been one damn thing after another
tons of hassles, some of which aren't entirely done with - some good stuff too though
for one thing - I'm making cheese. seriously. so far I've made four and the third one was the best
we also adopted a dog, something Jeff was never going to agree to
he made an exception for this one, and I can't even show you guys a photo yet, but he's an American Eskimo dog
he was picked up as a stray, so there's no exact info, but he's three to five years old and has epilepsy
apparently he was well cared for by previous owners, because his liver values were elevated, which indicates that he'd been on meds; and he's obviously had some training.
he's got a very nice personality and is quite polite with the cats

my other animals are all doing well
there are a couple of female garters who may be gravid after all - or maybe not
this coming week I'll probably end up with some babies from Scott - really looking forward to it
and some day soon I hope to pick up my camera again

Lightning struck our chimney! It blew a side out of the chimney and fried our cable modem (no internet or phone for 5 days!). Fortunately, no one was hurt! The storm caused widespread cable outages, it was very active, with lots of lightning strikes.

Mikhaila has been in heaven
not just the dog, but also two rats
she has earned this by diligently taking care of the cat litter, the gecko, as well as three garter snakes
she's off school now and has spent the past two days at the rescue, cleaning animal cages and doing whatever else needs to be done
she enjoys the work and the people, so that's probably how she'll spend much of the summer

Sorry for getting Mikhaila's name wrong! Sounds like she's having a fantastic summer! Nakita is gorgeous! Are his seizures easily controlled?

most people get Mikhaila's name wrong; it was going to be Michaela, but I'm not sure that was going to be any easier

Nakita is taking phenobarbitol and so far I've witnessed two major seizures. he was off his meds for a while when he came to the rescue, because they weren't sure whether he had epilepsy or liver disease, which can also cause seizures. he had high liver values which phenobarbitol does cause, so they had to wait until any meds he had been on previously had cleared out of his system and redo the liver panels. apparently it's one of those meds that don't kick in to full strength instantly
