Re: Other pets (pics and discussions)

So...I haven't been around much and haven't gotten the chance to tell everyone about the scare we recently had with my dog. My son leaves his toys around...and my dog gets a hold of them and chews on them. He has always spit the pieces out in the past. A couple of weeks ago I found him chewing on a plastic toy...and I simply took the toy away from him as usual. But a couple of days later, he began vomiting and we got worried. We rushed him to the vet...it was a Friday. The vet took x-rays and as expected, he had a piece of plastic toy in his intestines. Now, my vet will let us make payments...but since it was the weekend, there was no one on call to perform emergency surgery. They told us we would have to take him to the emergency vet...who would charge around 2-4 grand for emergency surgery...up front. We don't have that kind of money. They told us all we could do at that point was give him IV fluids and watch him overnight and pray that he passed the plastic...they wanted us to come back the next morning for more films to see what was going on and go from there. At that point, I was in a panic...thinking I might have to watch my dog die a horrible death because I didn't have the money for surgery. But my dog did throw up and poop out some plastic that night. We went back in the morning...my son and I both carrying the "lucky garter pennies" that Steve sent us (I take mine with me to every exam at school)...the vet took new films and told us that my dog had managed to pass the plastic and wouldn't need surgery! Thank God and thank the lucky pennies from Steve! That was a close one....

That's good news. I'm glad the pennies came in handy.
