hmmm. Was is searching for something. Some of our snakes will raise their head and kind of wave back and forth when they are investigating.

    Re: New here

It's a natural camaflauge. Ive noticed it especially with green snakes. But garters do it too. When they start moving after not moving for awhile, they'll sometimes sway like that as a way to look inconspicuous... like if they were in a bush, with the wind moving it a little, if they're moving a little, they won't stand out as much.

My adult does it all the time when he starts moving after sticking his out of the hide for awhile.

Trust me, if anything, it's good.

My babies do that around new surroundings. When I put them outside for a little bit, they were bobbing their heads and swaying their heads while exploring. I used to think when Snakey acted like a stick and was bobbing his head, he was trying to act like a piece of grass, but it wasn't the case. I was told (by someone on this forum, who I consider knowledgeable) that they have bad perception, and bobbing their heads like that helps them figure out where things are... Something like that.

Both my checkereds do that. They're just triangulating for depth perception. Google "motion parallax"

This one didn't end up passing my month test. He only ate a worm scented rat pinkie once and turned his head away from most food offered. Even though he was super friendly I had to let him go, obviously he thrived better in the wild
