    Re: Reptile Show Thread

Unfortunately I saw the same thing at one of the show's last spring. A guy had a tub full of baby map turtles and there were dead ones floating around the live ones. Of course I said something, and it wasn’t nice or quiet at all. It's sad that vendors like this tend to keep people away and don't get a chance to see the reputable breeders at these shows. I continue to go and have learned the faces of the ones to avoid

    Re: Reptile Show Thread

I saw a guy at the last show with a bunch of our beloved garter snakes on his table that looked like they haven't been fed in months and were covered in blisters and it broke my heart to see such a thing and to know that most if not all of them will die! I'm not against keeping some wildcaught animals because that's how we improve bloodlines and that's how captive bred animals began, but to go out and rape the wild just to make a few bucks and not take care of them is REDICULOUS!!!

Who's going to the Columbia Repticon this weekend Mar 8-9? Hubby is dropping me off at the show while he heads to the shooting range for a few hours. Best way to spend our 27th anniversary.

I didn't make it Sat due to the fact that our power went out and I wan't going to leave a propane heater going unattended. But power came back on late Sat night so we headed down today. I thought it was a GREAT show. Now I want a pair of flying geckos.

    Re: Reptile Show Thread

Went to the Capital Region NY Show (Times Union Center in Albany) today. It was disappointing. No garters that I saw, not even a marcianus. Almost no colubrids of any kind. Balls and boas. Most animals did look healthy which was nice. Bought some feeders for the carpet girls at a killer price, though. Realized I had never donated to any reptile rescue before, just furry critter ones so I did that. Felt good. All in all I think I'm done with shows though. Maybe the occasional White Plains but I doubt it. What really kind of upset me was there was a lot of bad advice being thrown around and I saw a guy put this boa around a kids neck and I don't know. That's just stupid, honestly. Especially in a crowded place where an animal could be easily spooked. Just my opinion.
