They aren't venomous any more than the common black rat snake would be. I don't know behavior wise, because I haven't kept Psammophis... but I have friends who do, and I am willing to bet it's very similar. They're extremely alert and smart snakes. 100% visually oriented and wow, one of my males is the meanest snake that lives on the planet. it's cute.... he does flying leaps out of his enclosure to nail me right on the cheek! The one in the photograph is very docile and even "tame" he will allow you to handle him and eats right on front of you.

Came so close to buying one last year. I still might someday soon and when I do, it will be my only non-thamnophis.

BTW Shannon, the "hognose with glasses" was just a repeat of the photo above it. We didn't get to see the pic you intended to show.

If you mean food and water... yes :P

no but seriously... if you are talking about the light thing... these snakes still retain darkness in their eyes, what is affected is their skin and iris pigments are all whited out (most still have small flecks of black, red and yellow throughout). Onyc has a small red spot on his side that makes me and everyone else thinks he has a cut and is bleeding... hehe. They have dark eyes inside, with gray irises.

Look at it this way... amel is where melanin is completely removed... whereas leucistic is like taking a normal snake and applying a white coat of paint to the whole thing!
