As far as I know, I didn't mean acantophis (heck, I only just found out what they are...wikipedia )
I guess you're talking about the red bellied thingies? I meant Pseudechis porphyriacus

@ Stefan; I'll try and I should succeed. I've been mailing with someone who slept between them! (found one 8 meters from his tent and found a Pseudonaja 5 meters from his tent!)

You're both very welcome to come with me! Just make sure your forearms are well trained...holding on to the landing gear for 24 hours is a long time!

I've always wondered why they're called Pseudechis,it seems to me that the name would suit Acanthophis better. Pseudonaja is pretty easy to understand.

Sjoerd, you said "Acanthurus".... they're Surgeon Fish! I presumed you meant Acanthophis, (Death Adders).

Not if you put Varanus in front of it.

Lol, Yes, I did mean Varanus acanthurus!
By far the coolest monitors I know! (well, in captivity then)

The pseudonaja thing is pretty easy to understand...I do like the pseudo thing, but not the naja thing Although cobras can be very beautifull!

Where do surgeonfish live? We'll probably be diving at the great reef as well. (A man's got to do what a man's got to do!)

Yeah, I meant that it is easy to understand the origin of the name pseudonaja and how it's linked to naja, since both are elapids and they have a few features in common, but it's less easy to see any similarities between pseudechis and echis.

Especially since echis is supposed to be an old Greek word for viper..
