Sorry about your loss and I agree with Steve most likely your other reptiles have mites and must be treated immediately.

    Very sorry for your loss.

Yes, take care of them immediately! The mites can travel to any and all of your snakes. See in that second picture you posted, you have 3 just on your thumb (there's one on your nail). They can hitch a ride on you and hop off at the next reptile stop.

Wow, those are pretty extreme. I've never seen mites, and haven't heard much about them until now. If they're anything like fleas, if one animal had them, they all have them(Sounds like they are kinda lke fleas....) It probably will be good to be proactive and treat everyone.

Newborn mites cannot be seen. By the time you start finding them in a water dish or on the snake it a serious issue.

Don't wait another day. You must be proactive with this issue.

Listen to them. They're right. Treat all the enclosures and reptiles, and tables and carpet, and.. well, go overboard, do it now, use the stuff Steve suggested (it's practically the only thing that works) and when that's done, do it again! (according to directions of course) If one had them, they all got mites. Get 'em early. Don't wait!

Wouldn't surprise me if the vendors entire collection is infested and he's either in denial, or just doesn't care.

    Anyone ever had a venomous?

I was curious as to if anyone here has ever had a venomous snake before I'm very interested in how care for the most deadly and beautiful works. I'm not sure how I'd care for my snakes without being able to get close to them.... what do you do?

Re: Anyone ever had a venomous?

I know Mike has kept them...ssnakess site has an entire forum dedicated to hots. The people there could tell you what is involved in training to handle them, licenses...stuff like that. It is definitely not something to be taken lightly. Some of the most venomous snakes take quite a lot of antivenom to save your life if you are bit. Most hot keepers keep antivenom on site...and most hospitals have antivenom for local venomous snakes...but if you are getting into exotics...sometimes the hospitals don't carry the antivenom. Just something to think about.

Re: Anyone ever had a venomous?

I've never owned one personally (and likely never will), but I worked with a few while in school. The hardest part is never, ever letting your guard down. Because of the way hots have to be handled, they never really get used to it. Most snakes will attempt to run and hide as their primary defense, but hots are more likely to bite as it is more effective.

I just don't see anything cool about them beyond the "look, I have a deadly snake" factor. You can't hold them. Tease-feeding is sometimes necessary and always scary. If I wanted a deadly snake I'd get a big python and carry a knife so I could fight back.

Re: Anyone ever had a venomous?

My father had quite a few when I was growing up.
There is quite a bit of red tape as I recall.
His main reason to keep them was to milk venom.
I recall is was not really "hobby" at all at that point. I remember he became very stressed out about them several times. Don't remember why.
