    I actually have yet to get a complaint from either my parents, family, or friends about the smell. (Believe me, my Aunt would complain BIG time. lol)
    I attribute this to my once a week cleaning and the fact that the tank itself must have enough smell after cleaning that the male doesn't feel the need to mark any more.

    Sons and brothers are the only males a "Buck" will allow in the enclosure WITHOUT showing aggression.

    And even with brothers, they have to be raised together, if you separate them and return them, they will fight.

    Mine don't smell anymore either. I clean once a week also, and have been using the carefresh for them as well. My older males just don't mark like they used to. I love it.

    The rats don't have an odor, either, that I can tell.

    what are the signs of a mouse about to give birth or in labour because pinky is running around and shoving more bedding into her hide but running around like crazy

    From what I've seen, they pic a spot, sprawl out a bit, and start licking down there.

    ok but also have you noticed excessive nesting behaviour a few hours before that

    she is breathing hevily and still running around grabbingmore beddin stopping occasionally for a bite to eat or drink then going back to the nesting

    That, combined with her body looking really wide- would mean babies are soon to come.
