I always wondered where to put anything interesting and snake/herping related too, because a lot of the time they aren't pets so I didn't think the 'other pets' thread was right I actually thought the lounge didn't have to be garter related talk at all... lol woops

If anyone asked for my vote, I'd vote for a separate board on this site to focus on other "garter-like" snakes, as drache suggested. There are plenty of boards that cover kings/corns/pythons/etc, but not too much focus on things like water snakes, green snakes, brown snakes, or the species mentioned in this thread. The same people who are attracted to garters are probably also predisposed to like these other similar snakes.

Unfortunately, the description is obsolete. If I could change it, I would. It can all be traced back to a time when we had less strict rules about what people could post there, but eventually things got out of hand as pointless crap from the Lounge started to flow over into other sections and started drowing out actual garter discussions. So the moderators, with the admin's blessing, came up with http://www.thamnophis.com/forum/site...ite-rules.html that were intended to put a stop to it. It worked, in part because the worst spammers left in the process. Some of them just couldn't handle being told to "get over it".

The Lounge is for some posts, that happen to be non-garter. Other natricines are tolerated there. Other herps go in the Other Pets thread if they're captive, Nature Photography if they're wild. Other things, like new phones/cars/computers/what's for dinner/what's the weather like and things like that, that don't have anything at all to do with herps or this place as a community, go in the It's oh so quiet thread. That's the random chitchat thread and it's essentially what the whole Lounge used to be.

Existing threads should be used (even if they're not on the first page anymore). Some non-reptile threads that you see around in the Lounge pre-date "the purge" and have been left alone out of pure benevolence.

Nobody's ever been sanctioned for not following these rules. But their threads may or may not be moved, merged, closed, removed etc. without any notice. But I do try to leave temporary redirects, that last from a few hours to a week, depending on how active the original poster is.
