    Yeah, they are much bigger. I guess that is why they are not in Heterodon? Not really sure. Taxonomy rarely makes sense.

    Probably because they're a south american snake.....seems only north and central american hogs are included in Heterodon. My best guess.

    They're pretty different in many ways
    they feel different to hold - much more smooth
    their scales are different
    their head shape is different
    their temp and humidity requirements are different
    their temperament is different
    I don't see that close a relationship
    that's probably why they're a different species
