I don't know about the snakes, but I've seen what it can do to people!! That happened in a town a few hours from us a couple summers ago. Made a lot of people very ill. And pissed, when they found out it was known and not shared with the public right away.

Do you think it's possible that the snakes would be able to fight it off better than us? I'm wondering, because in the wild they drink water from ponds, puddles and god-knows-what, and I'm sure there must be all kinds of bacteria in some of those water sources. Maybe their digestive systems would be able to handle it better?
Then again, being captive born, maybe not. Sorry, guess I'm not much help am I??

I have no idea. Apparently people haven't been getting sick (yet), so it doesn't seem to be that serious, but I'm not taking any chances with my snakes.

But I would like to know a bit sooner when things like this happen.

I don't blame you! I'd be immediately using bottled spring water for the snakes and myself!

And "yet" is the operative word when it comes to people getting sick. In my opinion, any e. coli in the water system is too much!

So far, they suspected coliform bacteria, not E. coli specifically. It could be practically harmless, deadly serious or anything in between.

My husband works in the tool and mold industry, which is an extremely crappy industry to be in right now around here. The company has been having a rough time, and they've had to make some major cutbacks -- salaries, benefits etc.
They're working with a skeleton crew of employees right now, and he's been informed that they just can't spare him for more than a week. Sooooooooooooo.......
Looks like we're going to have to look at some alternative plans. We'll make do and have fun, but it really sucks after over a year of planning.
