We also have red squirrels, though they're much rarer. Would those actually be considered the "normals"? Easterns are literally the only squirrels I ever see unless I specifically go looking for a different kind. A few years back a friend of mine went up to D.C. and was telling me about the black squirrels. I didn't even know they existed until then! They are melanistic easterns.

My son and I just watched the prairie dog videos you put up, Mike. That first one was too cute!...I love that dog. I want that dog. It was just too adorable how the dog was playing with the prairie dog. And the little thing the prairie dog kept doing with his paws...thanks for putting those up.

re: Other pets (pics and discussions)

When I went to DC I actually contemplated stealing one of the squirrels from the whitehouse lawn :P They were morbidly obese and so used to people that they would come right up to the edge of the lawn. Then I remembered that I don't like rodents as pets (and that stealing one from the whitehouse is probably a felony). We used to have guinea pigs, and I liked them alright, but they were just wayy too much trouble for not much reward IMO.

Plus, all of our other animals are constantly bringing up dead rodents or eating f/t ones. I have a hard time becoming attached to something I have to be okay with all my other animals eating lol Of course, I used to say that about fish until I got a pet fish... And bugs until I got my millipede, so that might only last until I end up having to adopt a rodent for some strange reason (I was only about six when we had the guinea pigs, so I didn't really do much with them)

That's funny...the one thing I remember about going to D.C. is the squirrels. I've been there a few times...and the thing that always stands out in my mind is how the squirrels would walk right up to you...it's crazy...they just come right up to greet you like little dogs or something looking for food!

That was awesome to see Tank in action. I can't wait to show that video to Julian tomorrow. I love the way he walks and how he just comes up and climbs into your lap. He is a very special turtle. Thanks for sharing the video!
