Shedding wouldn't cause him not to eat for a month, and a lot of snakes don't even go off food during shed.

Actually, they do. Almost all of my snakes go off food when in shed... Only the really big ones/ females will eat in sheds. My males wont.

Very true. Many never miss a meal during the shed phase.
Then there are those that do stop.

All my kings eat while in shed but when I had ball pythons they wouldn't with the exception of a couple. It just depends on the snake imo.

But a month without feeding wouldn't be caused by being in shed.

Neither of mine do. Last time Houdini was in shed, I picked him up and gave him a couple worms, and when I came back into the room five minutes later, he had started to shed. He's such a pig.

Snap shovels food in when I hold her up to the food even when she's in shed... My boys don't. I wish they would though, it'd make it easier.

I don't feed as much when they're shedding anyway, I personally think they aren't meant to eat as much, cause its harder to shed on a full stomach.
    Just my observations...

Re: Please help me with my garter snake!

Yeah, I don't usually feed at all when in shed, unless it's a couple worm pieces. Snap wont eat from the hemostats and will constantly strike at me if I don't give her what she wants. She's one of the slower shedders, though... She takes about a week to shed, so a couple worms wouldn't hurt.
