That should still be fine for a pair of babies. I've got my pair of T.s.pickeringi and my two T.s.pallidulus both in 10gal. tanks. It gives them plenty of room, but I can still be able to monitor them easily. Remember, when you're talking about babie garters, you're talking about snakes that may only be 6-7in. in length.

True, thanks for the input. But, I will see when I get them shipped from Reed, hopefully everything goes ok in March-April.

Also, I am planning to get a male and female and keep them in the same tank. Would that be a problem as babies?

If you can get the pics from your 'phone onto the PC, the rest is pretty easy.

Keeping two babies in the same enclosure is fine, but it means two things:

    1. You have to make sure they both get equal access to food... that one baby does not usurp the other at the feed dish.

    2. You have to make sure that the babies do not get into food fights, which means being there for the entire time they are eating... food fights are where one baby grabs a food item that is already in the other baby's mouth and a tug of war starts. Then when one of them advances the food into its mouth, it is possible for one baby to swallow the other!

Welcome to the forum! You've managed to find the BEST place for garter info on the whole web

I've got 6 Checkered babies in a 10 gal and they're doing great, so you'll be fine with two in a 10 gal. I'll be moving them up to 40 or 55 gal soon, but they're still a little too small yet. Definitely watch for food fights, lol, they love to steal from each other, but they are the coolest little things to watch. Seems like they're always lurking, basking, soaking, exploring, and when it's food time... what a show!

    Enjoy the forum
