Re: tell me ure snake exscape stories!!!!

so far I have been lucky and had only 1 escape. and that esacpe was from my hands and scared me to death! Rook was slitheri around my fingers while I sat on the couch watching TV, now normally he tightens his tail around my finger so he doesnt fall, but this time he let his tail lossen and he fell off my hand...and INTO the couch! this was when he was extra small, only 6" long or so, so I was terrfied, and I garbed my terrier stuck him in a crate, shoed all my other dogs away and I carfully opened up the couch(its a hide-a-bed) I didnt knwo where he was in the couch, so I was so scared I was gonna squish him, but finally after opening the bed out half way I found him...playing in one of the springs lol

now see, when Rook is bigger the last thing I need is for him to escape. I mean I have rodents, PETS and I breed them so its not uncommon for me to have baby rodents. the last thing I need is for Rook to escape and find then critters! we are very carefull with that, snake and Rodents are kept on entirly differnt floors and hands are always cleaned and disinfected after being around either the snake or the critters. not to mention I have quite a few dogs that I am sure me try to eat the little guy, and if he ever found my Rabbit..well she would pulverise him(not your typical scaredy rabbit lol). either way, if Rook ever escaped beyond a little couch escape I think it would almost be garenteed distaster

it's not something I would do
if they're the same size, it might be okay for a while

Re: tell me ure snake exscape stories!!!!

I lived in NYC and had 2 ribbon snakes that escaped from their tank that was in a north facing windowsill. one I found across the room sticking its head out from a milk crate I used for storage. After a week of searching for the other I stepped into the room and it was on top of the tank. When it saw me, it slid into it's hiding place: the space under the tank, accessible because the tank was wider than the sill.

they've got access to the coolest hiding places
you really do have to think like a snake to come up with that

Actually, now that it's been mentioned, small creatures do have an advantage in the hide-and-seek game! I had a little blue-spotted salamander as a kid, and it got out of its tank (still don't have any idea how) and we ended up finding it inside my sister's winter boot!! Must have been attracted to the moisture from the melted snow inside.
