Re: My poor lil non eating scrub

Soooo... I have another that has stopped eating. Has anyone experienced FTT where there was SOME eating but then it stopped? For the last couple feedings I've only offered silversides, trying to make sure they all had successfully eaten fish... I've continually isolated the ones that hadn't (from a couple feedings ago). Last night 5 of the remaining 6 all ate fish... some needed worm guts rubbed on it... except the one. Toward the end of the feeding I starting offering the little one worm bits. Nada. I'm thinking of taking a syringe and injecting a piece of worm into the little guy who is starting to look pretty thin.

    Everyone else is doing great.

I gave mama her first baby field mouse yesterday but she was only interested in eating my fingers... grrr...

Yes, I've had this situation occur many times. I've found it can happen within their first year of life.
The closer to that first year the less it occurs.
I don't recommend force feeding but it becomes your decision in the end.
If you are feeding wild mice I would suggest you don't. Mice eat all manor of crap.

Sorry about the little one not eating. Force feeding is extremely stressful on any baby snake and should only be tried as a last resort. If you choose to force feed, try only feeding a mouses tail thick end first. It's not nutritious but it might sustain the little one until that drive to eat willingly kicks in. Also field mice have the potential to carry a huge parasite load.

So sorry to hear you have another that isn't eating. Try going back to worms...I've done that with some of my picky eaters.

With babies, you never know what will happen. All you can do is try and be hopeful. In the end, it is really up to mother nature. Not all baby snakes are born to live.
