Correct Don! And they have areas where they encroach on other sirtalis subspecies as well. Intergrades exist as do wc highbrids. It's not a one way rigid formula approach as some suggest. It's not uncommon either for phenotypical appearances to be mistaken for something it isn't.

t.s.sirtalis and t.s.infernalis intergrades are impossible. hybrids, yes but not intergrades. their ranges are way too far apart. intergrade is the term used for crosses in the wild in a uncontrolled envirement. hybrid is the term used when humans purposely breed 2 different species/subspecies in a captive setting. as for the formula, you can do a scale count to find out the species/subspecies.

Correction an integrade is when 2 sub speceis breed and a hybrid is when diffrent speceis breed
2 totally diffrent things both of which can happen in teh wild and have been recorded as such

There is no absolute one way rigid formula approach when it comes to intergrades and hybrids when its known by taxonomists and researchers, herpetologists that have been arguing these concepts for years. These reptiles have been traveling miles upon miles for appropriate hibernacula and foraging sites. Who knows where a specific species or sub species will wind up.
