The mother is W/C so unknown father. Not a hybrid situation but a surprise you now have more than one snake situation. Did you have snakes before this W/C female? What state are you in? If I missed that somewhere sorry, just trying to get an understanding for the type of garter you have. I mean garters . Can't wait for pics. What are your plans for the litter, have you given it any thought seeing as they were unexpected?

Your in Iowa, just read an older post. Welcome to the forum. I'm in Des Moines. You stated central Iowa are you north or south of Des Moines? I find radix (plains garters) here, never see any red sided, that's why I ask N/S of Des Moines.

I live just north of DES moines. I have not had any other snakes before the mom. I plan on selling most of the babies. And keeping the rest.

Yes...as I remember...didn't you go to a red-sided den in Iowa Steve? Or was that Nebraska? Anyway...those are definitely red-sideds. Gorgeous! Congrats. That is quite the litter you have...a lot of responsibility. I made sure my newborns had a very secure tank of their own...babies are very good at escaping...a very shallow water dish with room to swim but shallow enough to get out without any problems, a pile of moist moss to hang out in and help keep hydrated, and a nice warm lamp on the warm side of the tank....40 watt regular bulb. I also make sure they stay warm at night with a 25 watt night bulb. Oh...and plenty of hides! I fed them everyday for the first couple of weeks...very small pieces of food...worms, fish, pinky. Supervise closely when they are eating...food fights will occur and they will try to drag the food into the substrate to hide. If you have any other questions...please ask!
