Re: Gail's garter - the snake kind silly.

That is funny. Snake very well may be from Iowa but it sure has heck isn't an eastern. I've had people tell me they have an "Iowa albino" checkered too.

It's probably WC too. Might want to screen / treat for internal parasites.

    <~~ wiping brow

I was getting worried there, thought I was going to have to take it back. Red sided huh? Guess that's why she caught my eye, I do miss my Cleo. My neighbor asked on the way back from the show what I'll do if Cleo shows up now. Feed her, love her and thank God she's back............what else would I do.

The guy had her for 4 years, and said he feed her a hopper once a week. Should I still have a fecal test done?

For the health of the snake and your piece of mind I would say YES.

"Iowa Albino" used to refer to a line of T- albino plains garters descended from an original WC found in Iowa. Because of where this albino was found, it was called "Iowa albino". And because of where the original T+ albino plains were found, the T+ is called "nebraska albino" But these days, the terms are used (or should I say "abused") and now "iowa albino" is used to describe any T- albino radix, and "nebraska albino" is used to describe a T+ regardless of where it originates.

So now, it doesn't really matter where the snake is from or descended from, "iowa albino" means its T-. "Nebraska albino" means it's T+. And yes, that applies to T. radix only.

I think the guy that said he had an "iowa albino" checkered really meant that he had a T- but that point is moot since there are no T+ checkereds.

And this guy that says it's a "iowa eastern" probably meant that the snake actually came from Iowa. Problem is, it's not an eastern, it's a red sided.

I'll take her to the reptile rescue place and have them pop her just to make sure. Besides I would rather donate $$ to their cause instead of going to the vet for this.
