Oh yes...I am very excited about the hermit crabs...that will probably end up living for another 18 years. Woo hoo.

Life span not only depends on good husbandry, but also species. Some species live months to just a few years, others up to 25 years.

What substrate are you using? I used dampened play sand for mine, deep enough for them to dig in. It was fun to watch the remodeling!

I have aquarium rocks in there right now...where do you get the sand? The only kind of sand that I could find at the pet store was really fine, colored aquarium sand. I'm on my way to Walmart in a bit...could I find it there?

I've always bought it at Lowes. Beware, comes in a 50# bag!

Thanks...on a different note...I bought shelves for the snake tanks tonight. I couldn't find any of the plastic plano ones that were high enough to put a tank and have room for the lights on top...but I found a set of metal ones that can hold up to 250 lbs and you can adjust the height on each shelf. Now I just have to put them together....and decide where I'm going to put them.

Yeah, my hognose ate last night! That stubborn little beastie hasn't eaten since Oct 14th. I offer every week, but many weeks, the only mouse eating was done by the cat! Last night I thawed out the last large pinky and put him in his deli cup with it. When he hadn't eaten by bedtime, I put the whole container in his viv. He'd be secure and warm, and hopefully more tempted to eat. He had a very big bulge this morning, and his momma was very relieved...
