    Re: Canadian night crawlers okay?

Yeah, I've used walmart worms for fishing for years. The other night I went through seven containers before I found one where all the worms appeared to be alive! Of the others, three were growing fungus, two had a wad of worms which had died and congealed into a mush on the surface, and one was frozen solid! It's kind of like a screwed up biology lesson shopping in the bait section there...

That's what happens to my worms... they turn into mush with one that's really stiff and alive. It's kind of gross. They stink so badly when that happens. Luckily, all my snakes love pinkies, so I don't buy worms too often unless I'm running low on pinkies.

Sounds like they're keeping them at the wrong temperature. I haven't had any problems at my local walmart. They keep them at 50 degrees and all the worms are always fresh and alive. The average refrigerator for storing food is too cold and they will start dying off. Once there's one of them dead, it pretty much kills off the rest quickly.
