    Re: Barak666's garters

Sounds like they are keeping busy.
Garter snakes don't like just sitting around. That's one of the reasons I like them.
Did I say like! I meant love.

Mine like to just sit around... That's all they ever do. That, and eat.
    ... And poop...

Mama's the laziest of them all, just hangin' out. She's been a bit antsy the past few days, though.

    Re: Barak666's garters

A little update, its as been a week since they arrived. All of them ate, even if the smaller one ate less than the others. They passed most of their time into the plants (especially the biggest one), but yesterday, while coming back from work, they were all on the ground exploring their environment, it is very pleasant to see them moving around.

The biggest one (I will name them soon ) seems close to her first shed since in my care. She just ate ˝ worms yesterday, while she is normally the biggest eater and I think her eyes are more cloudy than before.

I will post other pictures if I can get some tonight.

    Re: Barak666's garters

Finally I will have to wait for pictures. Yesterday, I had my shinkendo class and the lights were closed when I arrive. The biggest one don't seems to shed after all, there was a mirage cause by light reflexion. Where does the shed start normally? It seem one of them as the tip of her tail more drab that the rest of her body, don't know if it is a shed. Anyways, I will try to pose them as soon as possible.

    Re: Barak666's garters

Normally they start shedding at the head.
They will rub their chin to catch it on something rough. Then the rostral(nose, snout). Once they have both of those peeled back to the neck they simply catch the top or bottom shed on something and crawl out of it.
    That's a normal case scenario.
Low humidity can cause it to come off in pieces.

So can poor nutrition, regardless of the humidity. Causes the skin to be very thin and fragile, making it come off in "shreds".

    Re: Barak666's garters

Well, none of them seems to shed after all, guess they need to get some more reserves before it happen. They all get a good appetite, 1 hour ago they engulf 1 earthworm each (that's why they are quite plump on the following pictures).

Since 2-3 days they are lot more active and I never know in which corner of the enclosure they will be.

The pictures are easier to take while they digest than "running" true their enclosure.

(the glass frame is 1˝" wide, it give an idea of the animal's size)

    After lunch

    Guess where the snack is

I truly like them, they are quite curious and comical.
