Im sorry too !! My eastern female getting bigger and I din't see any copulation in april,and my male was'nt interrested .I think I will have jelly bean just like you. surprise if i have babies.

How big do they become if they only have jelly beans? Is it noticable enough that you think they are gravid?

She just had one meal with few worms since almost 2 week because of shedding her second shed since april ..Maybe just fat ,don't think so?
I take her out of hibernation on 20 april ,caught a wild male 17 april close to the dense .return the male in the fridge .take him out with the female the 21 april I think...
Didn't notice any copulation when the male was hot but did'nt act like other male at this time of year.
!He tried 3 days in a row .I didn't felt the cloacal plug left by the male after copulation ,I think its normal he was a very small male .
during this week I was able to feel this plug on many wild female ,Give a good idea if they had copulate .

the truth I think is that im very pessimist ,The more I look to her the more she is gravid ,bigger than any wild gravid female mate approximately during the same time .she was big last year and she recover very well from her last litter .Probably too big to be jelly bean ??
With a orange female,maybe one or 2 babies will look good ,the orange will return to wild and she is full of food ,give my a little gift in the bottom of my tupper while taking pictures...All adult wild female I keep since im 12 all full gravid.

TAnks! I lover her so much. She 's from a friend backyard .By now her original hibernaculum is gone!But he made an artifical hibernacle on his terrain,If she gravid probably 3/4 of litter will be left over the hibernclae in september.If she had breed with a male from a nearby colony.I think good chance of survival for the garter snake in Montreal area.I only keep the best.
last year she gave birth to over 35 babies my friend told me.cross my fingers. So you said that the female looks like gravid just before giving birth,you never know what to expect really.
I reproduce 2 female this way and they all gave birth to many many babies and all in good shape ,(feed on toad,frogs and worm,minows) at that time ive got lot of spare time to go in the wild search for snake food.
Good food help prevent incidences in some case .
Thats why I give lots of worms not only throut mixture that help balance,
lots of thing takes their toll in captive breeding .I breed 2 wild animals .My female had 4.5 month of hibernation ,the male was caught fews days after emergence in april.Everything looks good by now.
So the lights(temperature)uvb-uva ,the food are my main responsability.

Thanks, Don. I just hope Penny doesn't spit out jelly beans, since I'm not too sure about Azule's reproductive abilities.

I just took a look on Azule and Penny very nice snake !!Good look to you.

I dont care if she give me slug only.Im more concern If she have lot of dead babies,slugs ,malformation...cause by many factor.wrong food,
Artificially high basking light at first stage of pregnancy,or just the wrong basking lights.The temperature as well..
I can't have any good conclusion with only one gravid female.For exemple If i have 10 gravid females and only 2-3 females with lots of slugs,death etc.I was wrong 20 to 30/100.Not so bad
Otherwise if 6 to 8 females have the same problemes I think Im the cause !maybe everything I did was wrong??you know what I mean???
Only time will tell.

double poo!!!!! our wonderful mascot Cariad gave birth today.....she had 1 little still born baby....she shed also, and in the process tore the baby in 2....sucks. this little baby appeared to be a Nebraska albino. I will post some pics next week. I am heading out of town to Idaho this weekend. I will be shooting a bunch of pics when I get back.
