Hypermel is an actual color morph and tend to have exxagerrated areas of melanin that is not really in a controlled space, its kind of all splotchy and inky looking... so a more fitting term would be like... "Midnight Phase Radixes"????

Steve, I think I can speak for alot of the folks on here about the response- with the love you have for them, I don't think you would move forward on a half-a$$ endeavor. These will be awesome.

I just noticed Samantha's dots today and they're very small almost between her scales. They're not as prominent as Midnite's dots.

I just added an album to my gallery for anyone wanting to take a look at this guy. The full body shots aren't very good because the subject matter had an attitude. It's not his fault. He hasn't had a lot of out time and is still settling in. There will be more to come.

Something tells me if this breeding project works, I won't have any problems finding homes for the offspring.

    Re: Midnite radix

    Steve,
I think is a very worthy project worth persueing, but I wouldn't expect that it will be an inheritable trait in terms of being a simple recessive or simple one site "on/off" type gene. However it may be limited polygenetic in which you could get dramatic results in just a few generations of selective breeding. Worst case senario you pick out the darkest offspring and breed them to produce higher percentage of offspring with the desired midnite look to them, keep in mind that at some point inbreeding or line breeding may present some issues. While I said in my first sentence not to expect this to be a simple trait, it may in fact be just that, nobody really knows untill you do the breeding trials, thats why its fun to try right?
Best of luck with this breeding project,
    Jeff
