AWWW Tami, what a precious boy! I have always loved the breed.
The long ears, the wrinkled little legs, the droopy eyes.

Gizmo is a doll!! Congrats!!! I used to work with our local basset rescue and I was amazed how many end up in rescue... we were always over full. It seemed most of them were turned in for being too high energy (everyone thinks they are lazy old dogs, but they're not!!), they couldn't be housetrained, or they were snippy with kids. Lost of skin and eye problems, too. But overall I love them!!! Not great on the coming when called, tho... lol They seem to have that selective hearing loss thing downpat!! :-)

sounds like a similar personality to dachshunds - they seem to have missed that "follow the leader" gene that's so fundamental to the average dog

    Re: Introducing Gizmo!

Thankfully he chose a spot down lower on the bed last night... boy, am I tired, tho... this boy really is a handful. I'm sure we'll get it figured out, but wow...

LORI!!! I'm going to have to pick your brain!!! That is so cool that you used to work with basset rescue! He's really my first experience with them. I figured I had enough dog experience to handle anything... lol... yeah... I'm doubting that theory now! After a veeeeeeeeeeery long morning I just pulled out a crate and guess who jumped right in and settled down? Wow... door's open, puppy's asleep... cool that he's already crate trained. So, whatcha do about non-stop demanding barking?

Oh, and Rhea, he does follow me around... until there's something better to do
