How the heck do you feed them babies??? They must eat very very tiny worms? They do seem work but gosh how do them little guys live in the wild?

My baby dekayi's were started on tiny baby slugs and "neonate" earthworms.

Baby slugs are about the size of a Small booger, those little tots will consume a large amount of these in short order.

In the wild, the baby snakes will crawl under rocks and debris on the ground looking for these prey items.

One of the main reasons we have such a thick population here is the abundance of slugs, However the mortality rate in the wild is still rather high, hence the large litters.

Birds think of these tiny babies as a tasty treat, Garters will eat them, and even certain insects can devour them

Not to mention that all of them may not find sufficient food to flourish.

And the wait continues...still only 1 baby. Wayne is it unusual to go 10 hours with no more births?

    The whole situation is unusual.

One baby?? hard to comprehend, no stillborn bodies?

Have you sifted the substrate and looked for evidence of others?

And lastly, it is very rare, I have never seen it myself, but it is possible that mom ate the babies.

Not so much for food, but to end their captivity. (Animals of many different species will kill the babies before they will let humans "have them")

I had a momma mouse that murdered her litter twice, ate nothing, just severed the spines. Ultimately I had to feed her to my Pueblan, I couldn't deal with the killings.

1 baby, no stillborns, on newspaper so no substrate to check. Oh well I guess I'll see in the morning. The one baby is REALLY cute, he/she has a distinct white neck and a white ring...I don't know if this will fade but it's something I've never seen on an adult.

    Jerry

the ring is normal, and yes it fades with each shed till gone.

48 different babies, all had it for a couple months, then gone forever.

Check out this Dekayi, NOT mine, I wish it was!!!
