So, James, like Peepers and Jeepers are Thamnophis sirtalis sirtalis 'variety'? Actually, correctly that would be written a variety of Thamnophis s. sirtalis.

James, I don't think there's anything in the articles - though I didn't specifically look for this - but do you know where I could find info on the characteristics that differentiate species? Like - though I'm not very good at telling yet - one difference between the Eastern and the Western are the stripes on the bottom side jaw of the Westerns. I'm looking for *that* kind of info.

I'd really like to stay away from the anal plate(s) and stipes on the 3rd and 4th scales, blah, blah, blah. Garters don't hold still enough to do that kind'a counting!

well i dont think my george has a name for its coloration yet so ill just call it rusty

Oi... There are too many color variations out there to name. I think unless it's a very distinct color, such as the blue one in the "Easterns I have met" thread, we should just refer to it as "having a nice (insert color) color" or whatever.
