    I'd have to guess a Brown watersnake (Nerodia taxispilota), although it could be a big Banded watersnake (Nerodia fasciata fasciatat). The big head makes me think more N.taxispilota....they get mistaken for Akistrodon a lot because of the big head.

    Funny, I was leaning towards fasciata after doing a bit of research. But then again, I wasn't there, didn't see the snake in real life.
