LOL...thanx Lori, I don't keep them any more because I'm very allergic to the feeder insects now. I really had fun with them though, so I do miss them. Garters are a nice alternative for me though....they're active enough to keep me insterested and since they tend to stay smaller, it lets me set up nice tanks for them as well.

Roy, I forgot about the insect allergy. Bummer. So if we set a thousand crickets loose in your house you'd run out the front door screaming, and then we could run in the back door and swipe all your snakes, right??? Er, just hypothetically speaking, of course...

Actually funny as it is, crickets don't seem to bother me....it's just mealworms, superworms and cockroaches.

what about silkworms, hormworms, butterworms, waxworms?
those have very different nutrition and hardly any exoskeleton

I actually haven't had much luck getting some of my lizards to accept them. My garbage can of a blue tongue skink won't even eat them. The wax and butter worms are also high in fat. When I was keeping lizards, I like to breed my own feeder insects, so that I can control their nutrition and such. I like to give them as much variety as possible and that way I wasn't always running to the petstore to get feeders. Also wonder if I won't eventually end up having allergies to the others as well. Think I'm just better off with my garters. Don't think I'll become allergic to frozen mice anytime soon.

I kept and bred them in the seventies and eighties. Enjoyed it very much.
