I did some more researching, and it appears that it is illegal to hold in captivity an animal that is native to BC. So this limits what kind of garter I could get.

I wonder what my possibilities are now to getting a garter.

What about garters native to other provinces?(Easterns, Maritimes etc..)
There are people in Canada who breed/sell garters--not as easy to find as the US but they are around. You might get some luck that way.Anji
