    this weekend I'll take more pics
    we did notice that the head/face of this species is different from that of our western heterodon nasicus nasicus, Casey Jones
    Casey has a little hard shovel extension at the end of his upturned nose
    these lystrophis pulcher don't seem to have that
    I'm gonna take a closer look, after they've had some time to settle

    I never could remember that version
    the one my daughter learned seems easier to remember:
    red next to yellow is a dangerous fellow
    red next to black is a friend of Jack

    what I don't get is what happens if you have the red between the yellow and black - like does Jack have some dangerous friends?
