I'll be building one from 15mm and 34mm furniture board, obviously with glass doors. I think others have used chipboard or marine plywood, which needs to be sealed.

Stay away from anything that isn't 100% silicone. Sometimes sealants will have fungicides and other things added that can harm reptiles, but if it says 100% silicone it should be safe.

I've found that all of them contain fungicides, unless you buy one made specifically for aquarium use.
