    to give a little perspective:
the Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge is part of New York City
that thing in the background there is the Empire State building

oh yeah - and there are snowy egrets too

this is where the terrapins hang out when they hang out

    some pretty berries

here's what happens when you rub yellow and red berries on a piece of shell

    that's it
    we had a great walk
the air was brisk and sea-weedy smelling
it's a great habitat and if I were truly dedicated, I could even get there with public transportation, but it's a heck of a lot faster with a car . . .

    Re: The Nature Photography Thread

Here's some from my trip to Belize back in 2005. Nice to be able to trot these out again:

A fisherman we met on the river with his catch:

My best friend in front of a GIANT fragrant plant whose name I forgot. I was impressed because I got one from a flower show, and it only got about 4 leaves on it and died.

An Iguana we saw several times in our island explorations

A baby saltwater crocodile, man were we glad Mama wasn't around!

Rhea, I didn't know there was a nature preserve there. Very cool! The geese were nice, but loved the egrets. (I have no egrets)(Snicker snort)

it's okay to have no egrets, as long as you've got a heron
