In the wild through predation, in captivity through incorrect humidity.

Nice pic. In captivity, a lot of moulting Tarantulas get eaten by their cricket 'prey' too!

Wow. Ok, well, I have more of an appreciation for tarantulas now. But I still don't want to live with one. LOL

Re: Its oh so quiet Shh Shh

I recently got into tarantulas, but I never had an aversion to spiders. I was at a local pet store and they had slings (spiderlings for short) for .99 cents... how could I resist?! I started with the one, got another at an expo, then another from a friend, so I'm up to 3. My fave part about these guys is the type of vivariums you can set up for them; some are stunning. Mine are too small yet, so they're in little containers still. But I have plans, big big plans, lol.

Here's a page with awesome shots of molting.

    And here's my guys...

This is the .99 Honduran Curly Hair sling. It'll be dark brown with long wooly hairs when it grows up.

This is the one from the expo, a Costa Rican Tiger Rump sling fixing to molt. One day, it'll have red and black stripes on it's rump and the legs will be black.

This is the one I got from a friend. I don't think he had kept the humidity up because I brought it home and misted it and the very next day it shed. This is a Chaco Gold Stripe. He's the biggest one I have, and still smaller than a dime.

I had a Trinidad Chevron once, but it seized me and dragged me all around the house.
    I don't do tarantulas anymore!

Okay, I looked at all the pics on those links, hoping that I too would find something "sweet" about them.
Nope, they're still just big hairy spiders. (shudder!)
It is interesting info about them though. Just can't get past the appearance thing.

    Cute. Like Ewoks.
Hmmm, I'll try to keep that in mind! Maybe I can convince myself.
Did the Ewoks have giant fangs????
