You should soon be able to find a Pine Snake again, Lulu. You see them in the shops quite often. They really are great fun to keep, but they eat a lot! Expensive toys!

The Pine is great. I want to get him a little girl to play with, but he is still a little too young yet.

They eat like crazy, but I have a system worked out.

Whatever my kings don't eat (b/c they love to go off-feed this time of year, yet I still have to try to get them to eat every three days) I feed to the pine. He will eat mice and rats, and hiss when I pay a little too much attention to him.

They make great captives and are a pleasure to work with. The coolest thing about them is how they feel. They are really rough scaled. More so than a garter.

But the hiss is incredible. It is really loud and scares everyone who has ever seen her (the non-herp geeks that is). Though he will hiss, he never bites and has only rattled the tail once.

My garters are impossible to handle though. I have two of them, and every time I go to pick one up, the other darts out of the cage. I love those little guys.

I've had my kingsnakes go on a hunger strike for months... unless they are young ones you really don't need to try every 3 days

If mine don't eat, it's up to the next week and sometimes I even skip a week if they are not that active. I give big mice or Mastomys natalensis though.

The pine snake sounds fun... sissing like natrix maura probably. It's also mainly acting though with natrix maura.

Not worrying about the kings. Have kept those guys for years and got those down pretty well. The pine snake just reaps the rewards when they are picky. I should have clarified that I go on the every 3 days schedule after they miss their weekly feeding. That's all.

I love elapids. Pseudonaja Textilis and naja pallida are favs.

Live in Jersey and have no captive experience with hots. So i just read about them. It's okay. Almost glad I don't live in a place where they are easily obtained.

Though being from Jersey, I would take a bullet for a crotalus horridus.
    Well not really.

My favourite venonous snakes are those belonging to the Agkistrodon Complex, not only the North American genus, but also the Asian genera Deinagkistrodon and Calloselasma.
